I have been viewing this forum for a while now and appreciate all the info I have come across so I thought it best to join. My wife, Vicki, and I purchased our new 179 in 2015 and have thoroughly enjoyed our travels in it. Since that time we have made a number of additions and improvements which have increased our enjoyment of our camping experiences. We live in the Grand Rapids, Mi area and have limited our trips to inside Michigan so far. We also have a four legged companion, Jovi, who also enjoys going along. I am looking forward to gaining more useful info from this forum and hopefully being able to contribute some from time to time - Dave https://flic.kr/p/ https://flic.kr/p/JQF62F"> https://flic.kr/p/JQF62F - fullsizeoutput_617 by https://www.flickr.com/photos/155126991@N04/ - david snyder , on https://flic.kr/p/22qebP8"> https://flic.kr/p/22qebP8 - IMG_20170624_140512827 by https://www.flickr.com/photos/155126991@N04/ - david snyder , on Flickr

Welcome! You live in a beautiful state. We have a bunch of relatives there and have visited but not yet taken our RPod there. Actually we're all lucky here in North America for the abundance of camping opportunities, on all levels. Glad you joined us, it's a great forum.

Thanks for the welcome, I was going to post some photos but am in the process of learning "how to". Its a little more involved than I am used to and not being the most computer savvy guy it might take a while. I am trying to download photos from Flickr, anyone have any pointers?

Welcome!
The only place I've been in Michigan was the Detroit airport. It wasn't terribly scenic. :P

Congrats on joining. We are planning to take the RPOD through Michigan in June. Hope to get as far north as Mackinaw Island and into Canada

For Richand Cindy, when you come a couple of suggestions. Empire is a beautiful little town in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area, we camp at Indigo Bluffs which is just east of town. Friendly people, nice little small town shops, and a city beach right on Lake Michigan. Closer to Traverse City we have used Torch Grove campground which is on Torch Lake, another beautiful area and about a half hour from Traverse

Welcome to the forum from your neighbors to the north on Torch Lake. Much to see in this water winter wonderland. Continue to make great memories and enjoy your 179.

Welcome! We also have a 179 and enjoy it very much. I have also made a number of mods to our 179 which you can see by viewing the link in my signature. I look forward to seeing yours once you figure out how to post them.
I run Linux at home and have set up a simple web server to host my own photos. I use DNSExit for providing a free domain name to use when I post photos. I resize them using the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) to 800x600 or smaller as full-sized photos will not show up easily. I don't know if this will help you but it is an option.

To Jato, missed your Torch Lake reference, we were up there a couple years ago at Torch Grove campground during the big storm, had part of a tree come down on our Jeep and the wind blew our dome sideways breaking a pole and somewhat trapping us in the pod. The pod sounded like an echo chamber with the hail hitting it, also put a little over a hundred dents in our Jeep but the pod came out without any. Besides that it was a great trip, beautiful lake.

Ouch on the hail, bummer. If you like boondocking check out Fisherman's Island S.P about 2 miles south of Charlevoix on Lake Michigan. Only a handful of campsites on the big lake the rest are inland. Probably have to reserve to get the lakeside sites, but it is worth it, tremendous view.

Jato, not sure if you have been there yet but we are going to Manistique Lakeshore Park in August, never been there before but from their site it looks really nice, I believe this is their second year, the wife and I do metal detecting and wanted to try in that area up there.

Interesting you bring this up as we have a piece of property on Lake Michigan that is just east of Manistique. It is located 2 miles from the Kewadin Casino so it is real close to the campground you mention. We try to camp there at least once/year. From our property we can see the lights from Sioux Croix Lighthouse at night. Pretty neat. The lighthouse isn't that far away, just south of Gulliver a bit.
