We are planning a long autumn camping trip from our home in ID to the DC area, heading to the Smoky Mtns NP first then driving up the Blue Ridge Pkwy and Skyline drive.  Will make reservations at Cherry Hill campground near DC for a 6 day base camp but was looking for suggestions for shorter base camps near the Smoky Mtn NP and camps along the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive.  Base camps I would need electricity otherwise we are fine boon docking.  The way back will be through Gettysburg, Niagara Falls, across a bit of Canada and across the southern shore of L. Superior then through N. Dakota and Montana.  '17 F150 towing a '15 179.  We plan on about a month of camping - any campground suggestions?

This past fall we stayed at the Fredericksburg/Washington DC KOA in Fredericksburg,VA it was really nice!, we also stayed at the Harrisonburg / Shenandoah Valley KOA which was also really nice, both easy to find fairly close to food etc.
Will be heading back to them this fall!

We like Racoon Holler in Jefferson, NC. Minutes from the BRP. Nice CG, good owners and staff.

We also like Pride RV Resort in Maggie Valley near Waynesville NC. Very near Maggie Valley, and all the stuff at the southern end of the BRP, Cherokee NC, etc.

Cherokee Campground and Craig's Cabins in Cherokee right at the southern end of the BRP.  For campgrounds on the BRP, check out the https://www.nps.gov/blri/index.htm - Blue Ridge Parkway web page. For Skyline Drive, check out the https://www.nps.gov/shen/index.htm - Shenandoah National Park web page. Look for the "Camping" link toward the bottom of the respective web page. During busy times, the campgrounds will fill up. There are other campgrounds near the BRP and SD though which also are good choices.

Moonshine Creek, Balsam NC ...... Near Waynesville, excellent near the park. Stay away from Maggie Valley unless you love crowds.
