Yesterday the tongue jack kept operating after I released the switch.  It had been sort of hesitating and not behaving.  I kept pressing the switch and it stopped after a few seconds.  Seemed to work after that, but then it altogether quit operating.  Anyone have any repair experiences with the tongue jack?  It still has power, as the light operates.  Perhaps it was shorting out internally?

I have to manually crank it for now.  It is a new trailer and I can get warranty repair, but it is 100 miles to my dealer...

Probably the switch.. if you don't want to deal with the dealer for a $5 switch, hit up Amazon..

Could be a connection at the switch.  If you get into it, make sure everything is tight, and maybe spray some electric contact cleaner into the switch the best you can and flip it back and forth while it's wet.  But yeah, worst case, replacing the switch shouldn't be that big a deal.

Sounds like a switch issue, take it apart and clean it. My tongue jack hit a bump coming out of a driveway last week and stopped working, the light worked, barely, but not the jack. Turns out the bump caused a loss of a solid ground. I tightened the three Jack bolts and all is good.

I opened it up, and it smelled burned.  When I operate the switch, I can hear a faint buzz from the motor, so I think it ate itself for lunch yesterday.

Thinking more, it could still be the switch if the contacts have a large voltage drop.  I'll check it with a meter later...

I checked out the switch with a DVM and it is working properly.  So it seems to be a motor issue.  This unit is only 4 months old with very light use.

Bypass the switch to see if the motor is working.  A DVM can indicate a closed circuit in the switch when actually the contact points in the switch are so burned they won't let enough electricity through to operate the jack motor.  If that's the case, the contacts may sizzle and smoke.

It could be the motor, of course, but the switch is about 100 times more likely to be the culprit.
