This happened last year on my 171 and just happened again today while camping in my 179 (bought new this past April). One of the strings on the pleated night shade came undone on the inside. I really don't recall man-handling it. Was wondering if anyone on the forum has had this happen and actually has tried to restring one of these. Specifically, I can't see how to detach the shade from the cornice. I'd take it to my dealer for service, but they are 150 miles away just now. Thanks, JM

Before you take it to the dealer, check out YouTube. I don't remember the link, but there are videos of how they work and how to re-string them.

I took one of mine apart last week. I broke the strings that go into the right side at the small plastic keeper. On the bottom there are caps on the end of the bottom rail, pull off the caps and the whole bottom rail slides off, if the strings are still full length your good, mine were broke off at the cap. I couldn't tie new ones on and get the knot to slide thru the cap so I just put them back on the keeper. It works but the right side is up a half inch.
