My fingers are crossed for my fellow Pod'ers from Florida and on up the Southeast coast. It's bad enough to see what happened to the Huston area but now a possible category 4 or 5 hurricane, yikes! Looks like my elderly parents will be evacuating the low country in SC and headed to our home. My fingers are crossed, we don't have a repeat of hurricane Hugo. Oh well there goes our plans to hit the road with the Pod to the coast next week.

Right about now, if I lived in FL, I'd be loading up the eye-Pod, with an eye toward bugging out about 48 hours ahead of landfall.

I'm with you eye95. Make Irma an opportunity for an R-pod adventure further north.

Michigan parks are nice in mid-September. Mid-70s all next week if you really want to get away. You are welcome to come on up.

Michigan does an outstanding job with their parks. Never found one we didn't like.

Folks around here are already being very proactive.....the water shelves are empty in the grocery stores. Hate to see the gas stations on the way home today....shades of Hugo from 89... I think I might hook up the vehicle to the Pod just keep it from possibly blowing around.

I have a gigunda water bottle that I can fill ahead of emergencies.
It's called the eye-Pod.

Several. Don't use the round, bowl-shaped one for drinking water.

Mark, don't think were going to have that much to worry about for us here in central Carolina. Lots of rain and a power outage here and there, maybe. Hopefully not the ghost of Hugo arriving as its daughter Irma this time. At least you shouldn't have to flush to get a drink of water out of the Pod!

Some of the models don't look too good for Cedar Key at the moment, although I don't think anyone has a real handle on Irma's path.
The suggestions to hitch up the 'Pod and head north are well intentioned, I'm sure, but the reality is severe congestion on all the major evac routes, so unless you have a good cross country sense, you'll most likely join the masses idling on the interstate until their gas runs out. And there is no gas.
Our bug out plans also include our R-Pod, but parked snugly inside a steel building designed to 160 mph wind loads. Reachable in about 10 minutes. A change of clothes, food for us and the spaniels, water and important financial papers and we're out of harm's way...

Cedar Key looks to be close to the predicted landfall of this nasty storm. Praying that lots of its energy is worked off by then.

Goodbye, Irma-
And good riddance! We dodged a bullet. Never left home and never lost power. Luckier than most, for all of whom I have great sympathy and best wishes.

Lucky you! So happy to learn you did dodge this storm and came out okay. I hope the same for other folks on this forum that are in the path of this monster of a storm.
Hope to head out in a few days for the coast now that Irma has luckily past us by.

I would have thought Cedar Key would have done worse. Glad you did so well!
I thought about going to a FL state park at Port St. Joe but decided that might not be the best choice. They ended up evacuating RVs and campers yesterday or Saturday. Woulda been inconvenient! We'd thought about the Outer Banks earlier too, when Irma's path was wide open. You can't think of the Outer Banks for hurricanes. So we decided on one of our favorites, the Great Smoky Mountains. We knew we'd get rained on, but that's perfectly normal for the Smokies, so we made reservations and showed up right at the time they decided to let everyone know the park would, essentially, be closing the next day on account of Irma. We decided just to keep going east to the Outer Banks. So far, so good. Irma might bring some rain. I thought it was supposed to be here already, but things are still dry. 25 - 30 mph winds. Apparently great for kite boarding... There is some concern, it seems minimal, about Jose, but things look okay so far.
The OBX are great this time of year -- I know Leo knows. Still, I'm a little amazed to be here because of Irma.

Stayed at Ocean Waves CG in Waves last month. Had near perfect weather....high 80, low of 65. A little windy on our last day but dealt with it. Can't wait to go back.
