We had our air conditioner compressor freeze up and shut down. I checked the fuses and breakers. Nothing wrong there. I turn the fan on to see if it would run. It did. I noticed the vent directly on the bottom of the AC unit was completely closed. I opened it and I felt cool air coming out running in fan mode. After about an hour I decided to try the AC again. To my surprise it worked great. Moral of the story. Do not close the bottom vent on the unit. Evidently the other small vents do not let the cold air out fast enough causing the compressor to freeze up.
