Has anyone had experience with the Reese 350 mini equalizer hitch with their r pod, I'm looking at buying a used one. It's rated for 350 lb tongue weight and up to 3500 trailer weight. Thanks for your opinions.

2015 , 178 dry weight is 2600 lb.

What's the loaded weight and tongue weight? If that is > 3500# and 350#, then you are at the upper limit of the hitch. Typically you want to oversize the hitch for a safety margin. I'd aim for one capable of 4000/400, 5000,500, or 6000,600.

The E2 hitch that many on this forum use is rated at 6000/600.

My tongue weight is 225 lb with a single 12 volt battery and a single full propane bottle, we typically travel with all the tanks empty to keep weight down and anything we add to the unit has a weight consideration test...if we can find a lighter product we do.
What I was looking for was a first hand experience with the Reese 350 mini equalizer/sway hitch and if it improved towing stability. I'm pulling with a Mitsubishi Outlander and already have air bags installed in the rear suspension, the air bags go a long way in reducing rear suspension sag. We've only done 1 week long trip in which we covered 1200 miles with no sway ( maybe a tiny bit on bumps) however we really never had any challenging cross winds. The trip was done with no sway bar or equalizer bars.

According to FR, the 178 has a unloaded tongue weight of 268 lbs.

The gross weight of the 178 is ~~ 3768 lbs, which would put the tongue weight in the neighborhood of 376 lbs. Both of those are over the rating of that hitch.

So... If you KNOW you're never going to load to the limit, you could probably get away with that hitch.

OTOH, how much $$$ is this hitch going to save you over something that would not have that limitation? $100? $200?

Seems like a big gamble to me, but I'm not you.
