Can someone explain why pictures posted to threads show a Photobucket.com/P500 message?
Is this problem at my end, the senders end (others comment about the pictures) or the forum?
Thanks

Photobucket has held everyone who hosts photos from their site hostage. They now want a big fee ($400 if I remember correctly) to host peoples photos, AND you cannot access your old photo libraries unless you pay. So all pictures that were linked to Photobucket show as not available, all the links are gone unless the people who had those once free accounts pay up.

Some of the forums I visit have their own storage for downloading and posting pictures. This is paid through membership dues or sometimes ads. But some small forums don't want ads or fees to their forum members, so other hosting options must be used for new stuff. Unfortunately, all those old posts with pictures will likely stay that way.

Check out http://postimages.org/
Your able to direct link with your photos though you can't store your images as in "library's" that you can access as with Photobucket but at least you can insert your photos here with your message. If you make your library in Photobucket with public access you can still list the url to it in a message body to allow others to view your full library I do believe. Photobucket didn't stop free photo storage they ended direct access that allows you to insert photos in your messages with forums such as this. Dumb move on their part IMHO but that's the way it goes.

You need to read the fine print on whatever you're using to host the photos. Places like imgur, flickr, and google photos are fairly generous.

Would be nice if this site hosted the pictures, but that would imply a way to pay for it.

Personally, I'd be happy with a nominal join/annual fee of some kind, or possibly ads. If there are enough of us, the annual fee would only have to be ~~ $10-$20 or so.

Pretty much it, except, users can still download their image files from the photobucket site if they want to. I downloaded the pictures I had there. Most I already had backed up, but in the last year I have been automatically uploading all new pictures from my phone to PB. So I made sure I had them backed up on my  phone and laptop.

I have opened a postimage.com account, so far no issues, some day I will sit down and rebuild my mods page..

I now use FLICKR. Seems to work great. Used Photobucket and it worked for one day then it replaced my picks with a message about 3rd party sites.
