Did a search on here and couldn't find anything...  I've noticed my toilet not holding water for very long while in storage.  Has me very concerned as I know the valve can dry out.  We've only used it for #1 bathroom trips so there "shouldn't" be any solids residue on the seal/valve plus this is a 2017...fairly new.  Read on the web that conditioning it should make it hold water again.  Any others have this problem?  Seen the commercial lube on the web.  Is this what everyone is using?  I've also read about using olive oil as a conditioner.  What say ye oh experienced RVers?

Never done such a thing.. maybe my high fat diet and use of all modes keeps it lubed.

You're welcome.   LOL

I had the same concern, no matter what you put in it! I do keep a small amount of water in the bowl to keep the seal from drying out. I have also seen suggestions to put a thin coating of vaseline on the rubber gasket but I wonder if a petroleum product might actually break down the rubber.

I've read to NOT put petro products on the seal as it will swell up and cause additional problems. Camco and Thetford make a product just for this problem.

Good one Mark !

We also keep a thin layer of water on our valve throughout the year except when we winterize, then we put a few ounces of rv antifreeze over the valve.  Going on year 7 doing this, no issues.

+1 to Jato, I have had water evaporate in toilet. But when covered in antifreeze it stays at level through the winter. If you have standing water in a container in your hose it will evaporate.

Small valve leaks are just part of the normal aging process. Just something those around you need to live with...Dead

As far as the toilet goes, a cup or two of water is all you need. If you do keep it in storage for an extended period of time, I would probably put a layer of plastic (Saran Wrap) on top of water as well as all the sink and shower drains trying keep traps from drying out. Maybe some antifreeze if in cold climes.

Just a splash of RV anti-freeze when storing between trips. I never had problems with the seal actually drying out, so I would probably try the right seal lubricant first so as not to damage it.

How hard is it to replace?

You might try the spray product recommended for the slide-out seals ..."Slide Out Rubber Seal.
