I will be picking up my new 178 in a week or so. I have never owned an RV before. I really don't want to miss any possible issues that might need to be addressed with the RV before I leave. It's a good 5 hour round trip and I have heard that it takes weeks if not months to get a service appointment.

Should I ask them to have water in the tank to check for operation of that system? Should I crawl under it to look for anything, like loose brackets. Will I be able to tell if the fridge works on all 3 modes?

What all should I  be looking at so I don't have any surprises after I leave?  I have read stories of water tanks falling off, clamps on hoses not being crimped, etc.

Thanks

Hi NHpod. Dealership walkthrough routines seem to vary wildly. My advice is to get as much information as possible! Here's a thorough checklist. It covers just about everything and then some, but will give you a baseline of things you might want to ask if not offered:

Specifically to your questions. I would definitely want to see the fresh water system (tank, pump, HW, toilette, shower and sinks) all operational. Tip - ask to walkthrough propane system first. That way, water heater should be demonstrated and hot water produced and fridge begin cooling (propane mode). Fridge takes a few hours to get cold so you probably won't really be able to test unless you ask day before to turn it on. No, you won't be able to test all three fridge modes during walkthrough but if it's cooling on propane, I'd be happy to leave the lot.

You may consider asking before you arrive what you wish to have explained/demonstrated. That may help with expectations on both parts. My walkthrough was very thorough and included all the systems including winterizing, manual slide out function, water pump filter, dinette conversion, toilette flushing, wdh, brake controller, etc. It seems, unfortunately, that walkthrough was an exception.

If you don't expect to get a thorough walkthrough, perhaps you can find a campground close to your dealer and spend a few hours with your new Pod going through your checklist. You won't catch everything, but might save you a long drive back to the dealer.

Congrats! We love our 178.

Congrats!

I also agree with Fred. Our walk through was very thorough. We got all that Fred mentions including lighting both burners on the stove, heating up the water heater, running the water pump and so on.

At the very end they went through connecting/disconnecting the WDH, and setting the gain on the brake controller. All in all, we felt pretty informed.

I wish we had video'd it.

One thing the dealer did that was very useful for me later. With very few manuals on the equipment they did right down all the model numbers on their checklist. I used it later to get manuals off the internet.
