Newly purchased 2016 179, spent most of last year in a southern pine forest so there are lots of pine tar spots on roof. Wondering what is best product to remove pine tar, and what wax/rv coating product is best to maintain and protect roof? Thanks in advance for your time and energy. Billy

I'd try turpentine then use a mild detergent based spray, like simple green to remove the residue.

I suggest you try a test spot, a small area where you can try different cleaning products that remove the pine tar without damaging the roof.

We have successfully removed pine pitch with Goo-Gone.  For the roof we use MeGuiars Ultimate Liquid Wax.  Last week I used Protect All on all the decals and then covered everything with the Meguiars.  Finish on pod feels like a baby's butt. SMOOTH

Try hand sanitizer gel.
Sounded odd to me, too, when someone suggested it.
I've used it to remove pine tar from my Tacoma several times this summer.

If hand sanitizer works, it's probably because of the alcohol.  In that case, try denatured alcohol.  I know it works well with the sticker glue residue and doesn't hurt the gelcoat.

Many thanks for the information, will be returning the 'rubber roof'' treatment to the local RV dealer, and then focus on the pine tar. Billy

Best of luck with the pine tar, Billy.  Let us know how it comes out.
