I am going to look at a 'new' 2017, 178 r-pod tomorrow. The owner bought it in April of 2016 and never used it. It is green and I can't find any green '17s, only blue.  It comes with a "sunroom" and a winter cover. The asking price is about the same as a new  2018 178 from couchs rv nation.

What would be a fair price to offer?

Did they make a green 178?

The owner has a loan on the rv, how does that work when buying it? Is there a title transfer of title something?

Any other advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
David

Our "2017 R-179" is green.

Apparently Forrest River plays fast and loose with model year changes, names, and features. We got ours in ~~ July 2016, and it is registered as a 2017 model, yet for all intents and purposes it looks a lot like a 2016.

The loan would have to be satisfied to clear the title. In California, you would have to do a sale/transfer and disclose the lien holder.

Does it have a full tub surround? Is there a solar jack? Anything we should be aware of when we look at it? Thanks

I have a 2016 1/2  model 178 and it is Green. No full tub surround, no window in the door. No USB ports unit I added them. If the price is a wash I'd go for the new blue 2017's they have just a few new tweaks that the rest of us mod on to the older trailers.

The 178 in my opinion has tons of outside storage and can actually sleep 4 adults. The kitchen is admittedly tight but we cook outside 95% of the time.

Thanks, Bboudens.  With the r-dome and winter cover do you think 12K would be a fair price to offer? I also have to take into account that it is a 14 hour drive to Couches rv for their discounted rvs.

I paid 12K for my 2015 178, when it was less than a year old. Was a good deal. Interesting to see what the loan pay off is, that is going to influence price.

If you look up my posts you will see several talking about there is no such thing as model years.  RPODS are made every three months and can change during those times.  Because the official vehicle description from FR does not list a model year dealers can call it whatever they want.  And there have been several selling the Green ones as 2017.  The switch to Blue occurred in the June 2016 production and that was Blue/Blue.  The switch to Blue/Grey occurred Feb 2017.  Many dealers will match or come within $500 of Couch's price.  So I would shop around and try to get the best deal on a new one.  Otherwise offer a low price ($12,000) for the "2016" Green model.  Makes no difference what the loan is.  The person will have to pay it off to get a free title to be able to transfer it to you.  Makes it messy to have to do it directly with the seller, usually dealers handle this  Would not recommend paying for it and not getting the title signed over immediately

Thank you for the info. We went to our local dealer yesterday and they want 22-24k for a 179/180. I emailed them today with Couch's quotes on a 179 and a 180 and asked them if they could meet it.
I will go look at the 178 tomorrow and offer 12k if we like it. if accepted, will work out the title issue.

Wow that's high.  The MSRP sticker for our 180 shipped to PA was $22549.25 with every option except the bike rack.  Our dealer out the door price was around $15,000 (Couch was $14,500) but our local dealer wanted $20,000 and that was not out the door but the quoted price.  So we bought 100 miles away and have been very happen. We did need service but dropped it off after a trip to Ohio and when we returned to pick it up a few weeks later also turned that into a trip. We know we can never go back to our local guy for service but that's fine with me.

Couch's quote to me was - 2018 R-Pod 180 is $14,840 and 2018 R-Pod 179 is $15,260. It will be interesting to see what our  'local' dealer's response will be.

I was told (or read) that in 2017.5, R Pod's exterior color was changed to the Blue color.  I have a 2017.5 Pod.  Perhaps this is the same for the 178.   Perhaps you might explore that further.

We went to see the 'new' 2017, green, R-Pod. As described, it is brand new and in perfect condition. It comes with an r-dome and a winter cover. We really liked the set up over the 179 and 180. We like the idea of having separate beds for a good night's sleep. we also like the r-dome for extra room. The lowest the owner would consider was 13K; enough to pay off the existing loan. Couch's gave us a quote of $14,975 for a 2018 R-Pod 178 . I'm not sure if that is the OTD price or not; I need to call them.

So, what to do????? Buy the older one and have it now or deal with Couch and get a newer model for 2k more along with a long drive from NH to get it?

The local dealer has not responded to my email as to meeting Couch's price.

Couch's price includes battery and propane fill so only items needed would be sewer hookup, water lines, leveling pads, etc.  The seller probably already has those and may throw it in.  Tough decision to make I agree

Pretty much what I supposed on used Pod. If they owe 13K, they are not going to sell for 12K, unless they are willing to lose a grand. Appears 13K for a 2017 used or 15K for a new Pod. Tough decision, you can do a lot of mods for 2K.

I  just put a deposit on a new 2018 178 R-Pod at a dealer in VT. The local NH dealer , 70 miles away, wouldn't work with me, this dealer, 120 miles away, came within $300 of couch's price! With a travel distance  of 1800 miles RT to Couch's vs 240 miles RT to VT, I went for it. Oh boy, let the fun begin :-)

I know I'm going to have many newbie questions.
