I talked with a fellow Podder from Colorado this weekend about the R Pod. He said he use to have a 40' pusher and him and his wife decided to get a R Pod. With the big rig he stated they stayed inside most of the time and did not socialize with fellow campers. With the Pod it made them get out more and enjoy the outdoors. Watching around our camp site that was a statement spot on. Most folks in big campers are seldom out. Sounds like a McMansion community near me where I often pass through on bicycle. Kinda creepy. Perfectly manicured lawns, large decks, spotless BBQs, sparkling pools...and no people. Very odd. LOL.. we observed this in a very compact manner at the International Rally.. all the Pods were parked together in the village, we had 3 groups, each with a campfire in a can, visiting etc.. take the dogs for a walk.. not many others outside in the evenings, and the bigger the rig, or more $$$.. the fewer were out it seemed. ------------- |

We were those people. Back in 2010 we got our first tent trailer then graduated to a 27 foot Cougar. That wasn't enough so we got a 40 foot Bighorn fifth wheel. We found ourselves doing EXACTLY that--driving all the way to the "camp" site only to sit in the trailer. We camped in a tent for a long time. After the kids got older we moved up to our RPod. It always seemed to me that the tent campers were friendlier. I think it is that they were always outside and spoke to people out on their walks. The RVers were always inside watching satellite TV. Flipping the coin, some of the friendliest people I met this weekend had a lovely "big rig"but except to sleep & change clothes in it, I don't think they were ever in it! - This family of 4 didn't know a stranger (2 boy 17 & 18) and their dog, Rusty - they were kind, funny, and helpful to other campers just the kind of folks you pray end up next to you! That being said, there was 1 other R-Pod at Fort De Soto while I was there & typical R-Pod folks they popped right in and were indeed "Happy Campers!" ------------- AmberKate & RIP Little Tootsie -

We noticed the same thing. "Different strokes for different folks". I think it depends on your expectations, desires and life style. Small with nice amenities works for us as we are out for adventures and the "frog" represents a base camp with some comfortable amenities nothing more. It doesn't speak to who we are, our lifestyle, or where we are in the economic pecking order. We purchased it for the utility it provides and the ability to expand the window for adventures, meet kindred souls out doing and enjoying the same things we enjoy. ------------- Old and in the way so now it's time to play |
