We are going to be taking our maiden voyage in our new r-pod 180, aka "beaumont". Dealer equipped me with an Equalizer sway control hitch. My question is about backing in with it on. Is that ok or do I need to disconnect the spring arm? I didn't have to back it up when I brought it home. Also, my hitch has a max weight of 10000 lbs . Is that over kill?

Check the spring bars. The hitch head is 10,000 lbs, but the label on the spring bars should list the maximums as 600 lb tongue weight/6,000 lb weight capacity like ours.
You do not have to remove the spring bars. That is a big advantage of the Equal-i-zer, E2, and Andersen hitches (and probably a few of the others also) over a separate friction sway control device. You don't have to worry about forgetting to disconnect before backing up. It simply isn't an issue.

ok, thanks. I do however have the equalizer hitch that's rated at 1000 lb tongue and 10,000lb max

Okay. In that case, it is a bit of overkill. It will give you a little rougher ride. If you can exchange the 1,000/10,000 lb bars for 600/6,000 lb bars, it would be better.

I have the 600/6000 E2 too. Others here have said 1000/1000 is fine -- even maybe good in case you think you might ever move up to a heavier trailer. It's probably not a problem but it's more than necessary for an RPod.

I won't "normally" disconnect the bars on our E2, unless there is some sort of hump or dip going into the parking space. Much easier to disconnect the bars on level ground.
