I can see down the road of needing one of the portable black/gray water tank totes. With 30 & 36 gallon tanks what is a good size to purchase if you are camping for saw a week or two? Any brand stand out to pull behind a vehicle to the dump station? I like my Thetford. It's either 30 or 36 gallons. A smaller tote would be better, I think. I'd rather make a dump run twice with a more manageable tote than with this thing. In all honesty though, I rarely use it. I'm on a 10 day outing right now. Two days to get to my destination, when I dumped, 6 days on site, and I'll dump, and 2 more days to home. For two people with 35 gallons of potable water to start, we generally make it 6 days. (We are prudent with our showers.) If we don't make it, it's because we run low on potable water, which is another (fairly simple) trick to deal with. With 35 gallons of potable water, it's just about impossible to fill either the 30 gallon gray or the 30 gallon black tank and you sure can't fill both without finding more water. Pretty much the same as TT.. a week? dump on the way out. 2 of us in the Pod. Black has never been an issue under 12 days or so. Grey.. more of an issue, 6-7 days max. Navy showers are key, and using paper to reduce dish washing.

The reason I ask we filled out gray water tank on a 2.5 day weekend. Two showers using the water control valve on the shower head. I ask my better half if she left the water running while was washing the dishes. She said no but I think otherwise. She does at home. Learning curve. Thanks.

I have one - I use it for moving waste water around when Pod is in storage. I keep the Pod "live" 24/7/365. Has the adapter for a ball hitch, I hook it up to gator and take it sewer cap. ------------- Mike Carter 2015 178 " I had the right to remain silent, I just didn't have the ability." |

If you're asking me, yes. But I wouldn't want to tow it far, and I feel like you need to go at slower than walking pace. And here's another thing: where I am now I brought my tote and I used it today out of an abundance of caution. The campground I'm staying at doesn't have a dump station so I have to go about 10 miles up the road to dump. No way I'm towing my tote full of crap down the highway! But I have a solution for that. I loaded it on to my front-bumper mounted cargo carrier. Thirty gallons of crap is a lot to lift onto a cargo carrier, but I did it. Just about any kind of camping has a lot to do with making compromises. All in all, I think sewage totes are made more for the folks who stay in one spot all summer. Everyone is different, and to each his own, but if you're filling up your gray tank in 2.5 days you might want to look into serious water conservation practices -- or, and a whole lot of people go this route -- stay somewhere with full hookups. I do that sometimes, mostly when I have no other choice, and it's a really nice luxury. TT ------------- 2010 176 FJ Cruiser |
