Hello all. My name is Alan and I purchased a R-179 in late Dec 2016 from Atlantic Marine & RV, Ft. Pierce, FL. I have enjoyed the little trailer for about 22 nights already this year, using it at several campgrounds and boon docking for up to 3 days at a time. Very nice trailer and perfect for my needs. I did discover a very minor leak in the black water tank where the flush fitting enters the side of the tank. FR has already approved a warranty repair. I took the trailer back to Atlantic, and to my surprise, they demanded a $110 upfront payment before they would take the trailer and do the warranty repair. I said no and brought it back home. So I turn now to this great group of r-Pod experts - is this a normal requirement to have warranty work performed? What is the purpose of such a payment? Does anyone have any suggestions? The ultimate goal is to stop the leak.
Thanks to all.

The smart thing would have been to ask the dealership about it. It may be that they have the customer pay (insuring they GET paid) and then refund when the manufacturer pays them. They may work with many brands, and have trouble getting paid by some..

The dealer is definitely aware of this, as he was standing by the maintenance man as he demanded the $110.

We had to have a fender replaced after a blow-out and our dealer took care of it with no money up front.

There is also the Better Business Bureau - they keep a file with complaints. One phone call from them may fix it.

I agree with Furpod. Bet they want paid at their rate and then they invoice FR and refund to customer. Worth it to ask, if that is not case, then I would complain. When you say FR approved did you call them or did the dealer contact? Dealers are chancy, choicy bunch. Best to complain when you have all the facts. I think your leak as you described is at the flush attachment.   Have you looked at it? I found my hose is connected by a PEX to a 90 degree hose barb, the leak should be easy to see where it coming from.

I had several warranty items repaired by my dealer (Country Roads RV Center in Lexington, NC). In no case was I charged up-front.

I would run, not walk, away from that alleged "dealer". I've never heard of such a thing as an upfront charge for warranty work. It's either covered, or it isn't.

I had warranty/recall work on a used r-pod and didn't pay a nickel up front.  In fact, they even reimbursed me for expenses related to an error in their work fixed by an independent shop close to my home.  If I was going to buy another TT, I'd go to them first.

Did you report the dealer's demand for up front payment to FR?  I sure would.  They don't need dealers who treat their customers like you were treated.

I have confirmed from both the dealer (Atlantic Marine & RV aka Suncamper Liquidators) and FR that the leak has been approved for warranty work. FR basically said "oh well", as they don't have direct control over any of their dealers. The selling dealer must do the warranty repair, but there are no rules governing payments other than between the dealer and FR. A repair shop other than my selling dealer has the option of whether to perform the repair or not. Ugh
Thanks everyone
