The "AIR" setting on the thermostat doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a trick?

I think it's because most off the shelf thermostats have both heat and air. I had the same thing in my old house but when they built it in 1860 they didn't bother to put in ac and in the subsequent remodels, when they added a boiler to heat the place, they only connected the heat. I meant to say, the "Fan" setting doesn't do anything. It does say "Au". While I appreciate your reply lostagainagain, the only controls on my ceiling AC are vent controls. I wish somebody would tell me how to work the FAN setting. It should do something, but maybe not since I have the FantasticFan. ------------- |

hmmm, on our 172 all the ac controls are on the ceiling unit. Maybe they changed ac models or manufacturers since ours was built. Try setting the fan to either "high" or "low". We were told, and the directions say, AU = automatic, and that is needed so that the fan/a/c will shut off when it reaches the set temperature. Supposedly, it is possible to ruin your heater and a/c if it is not on AU. Toggle to A/c or heat, whichever you want on, then to the right is + and -, which adjusts the temp. There is a slight delay when you do any of these, so give it a little time  ------------- FROGGY |

As far as I know, the fan does not run independently of the AC or furnace. You would need to set the fan to high or low, then set the thermostat to AC but set the temperature to a point above where the compressor will cycle. For example, if the temperature is 70 degrees, set the speed to high or low, and set the temperature for 75 degrees. The fan should run, even though the compressor does not cycle. You could also set the heater on with the fan set to high or low but set the temperature below your current temperature so that the furnace does not fire. Setting the switch to Auto just means that the fan will not run constantly. I checked our AC and it's the old fashioned kind from way way back in 2009, when there were two dials on the ac unit in the ceiling. One for the temp and one to control the fan w/ and w/o AC. Kind of like the budget hotel ac/heating systems. What's curious is that it also has a setting for heat. I haven't tried it in that setting but presumably it functions as a heat pump and blows cold out and warm in with that setting or FR is messing with my mind. In reading all the issues people have had with new Pods, I'm kinda glad I bought an old one with all the bugs already worked out so all I the to do is maintain it and dream up new mods to do. ------------- Never leave footprints behind.
