After owning a couple of motorhomes and a 25 foot camper, we found a 2010 Pod on Craigslist last year. Very impressed with the quality of the interior and overall fit and finish. We get about 14-15 mpg towing with a Ford F 150 with the 4.6 V8. Truck hardly knows it is back there (except when climbing the NC mountains). Its compact design makes it easier to turn in my narrow driveway. I am interested in the comments about wind deflectors, I'll look into that for future trips. Our favorite camp spot is Huntington Beach State Park in SC. How neat to have this forum for Pod owners. Thanks to those who maintain it!

Do you have a cap on your truck? That would help. Otherwise, I use an AeroPlus by purpleline. It requires one to have a roof rack on which it mounts. One that can be installed without a roof rack is the AeroShield by Icon. Another that can mount permanently or with a clip-mount system is the Wingmaster Tubowing. I only have experience with the AeroPlus.

On the Escape we first towed with, it helped our mileage significantly, especially when we limited our speed to 60 mph. That is the top speed purpleline recommends to avoid stressing the AeroPlus. I have had it up to 65-70 on some downhill stretches without problem. I think that if it is attached properly, it can take faster speeds, but pupleline probably would say that the faster speeds would be at the risk of the warranty. I do not yet have experience with it for towing with the Nissan Frontier we have now. I just recently figured out how to mount it. I built a custom crossbar for the Frontier's roof rack. When we go to pick our R-Pod up from being repaired at the factory, I will be able to test it. I am hoping to see a similar mileage increase with the AeroPlus on the Frontier that we experienced with it on the Escape.

The distance between the deflector and the front of the trailer is longer with a pickup truck than with an SUV. I'm not sure how that will affect performance. We have the crew cab and a short bed on the Frontier. The distance would be farther with a regular cab and long bed.

If others have experiences with wind deflectors, it would be nice if they shared them here also.

After I posted the initial message it occurred to me that our mileage was being helped by the cap we already have on the truck. This no doubt cuts down the buffeting and drag. Thanks for your reply!
