Congratulations and welcome.....clearly you were meant to have a POD!  Nice to have one just pop up like that.  You'll enjoy the 179 I'm sure....it's a great plan!

bakin15, go for it!  Why pay nearly $6K more for a new one that hasn't gotten the bugs worked out of it when you can get a used one in good shape that has had its warranty issues already worked out.  Think of the time you'll save in not schlepping back and forth to the dealer for warranty issues.  You could be out camping!

I was poking around on Craigslist a couple weeks ago, and discovered a 2 year old 179 that looked nice at a small dealer, so I went to have a look at it. The condition was amazing, it looked like someone had bought it and drove it to indoor storage and parked it. The decals are bright and unfaded, and there are no rock chips on the front or on the axle. I looked inside the coupling, and the paint was hardly scuffed. The "removable freezer" sticker is still inside the refrigerator! It also has the riser kit, a battery disconnect and the cover for the bath fan. All for $5,500 less than the new one we were looking at. Plus it comes with a 45 day warranty - sold! We will be picking it up in a couple weeks. We are looking forward to becoming podders!

Congratulations on your find and welcome! I'm glad your Craigslist experience worked out better than ours (got scammed for $2000). That is how we ended up with our RP-179. In the end, we are much happier with the R-Pod than we would have been with the Casita we thought we were going to be purchasing. It was an expensive lesson though. I hope the replacement of the garage door will not be too expensive. I guess your son will have a reminder on his car to not do things like that.

Thanks! I hope it was used enough to shake out the bugs, but if there is anything major going on I have the warranty, the small stuff I can fix myself.
I was able to salvage the garage door, but had to put over $1,000 in to replacing the rollers, hinges, tracks, ect. He claims he was in a hurry and forgot to put his car in park when he hopped out of it....

Congratulations on the purchase. Now you have one of the best tinkering projects anyone could hope for and an excuse to "work out the bugs" during the first month you have it.  Of course that requires a lot of camping.

What an opportunity for your son.  Now he can learn how garage doors work and the fine art of reassembly.  You can sit back in a lawn chair with a cold one and supervise him as he does the work.  And when he's done, you can have him climb under your pod to check for loose wires and re-ziptie them.  Then he can.... all of course in payback for smashing the garage door.

I have a tree stump in the back yard that needs to be dug out - seems like a good project for him! I am also thinking the pod will need a good coat of wax when we bring it home.
