Topic: The positives of R-Pods when travelling with dogs Posted: 27 Jun 2017 at 11:35am |
We've only been out about 10 nights in our 183G, so this is still all very new to us. But our 60 lb Labradoodle has been with us every step of the way. Our trips have been for hiking or "getting somewhere", so have never left her alone in the pod. She's content sleeping on the floor at home and on the road, so a simple mat on the floor has been fine - we just watch our step on those middle of the night bathroom trips! I may invest in something more comfy as she ages, but for now, we're keeping it simple.

We traveled 8 weeks in a 179. We have an adult Newfie and a yellow lab. My 11 year old daughter sleeps on the dinette. The lab sleeps with her or at our feet. The newfie seems to prefer the coolness of the floor. Dogs ride in the screened off third row of seats in the Tahoe. Everyone seems happy. We stop once or twice a day at a river or lake to keep them active and cool. Also helps lower energy levels in the evening.

We travel with our English Bulldog, he likes AC and water stops. He sleeps on the dineete cushions or on the floor where he is cool. He's an 80 pounder and very happy to sleep all day.

As our signature block indicates, two Cockers go everywhere we do, and most certainly in our 177.
My one complaint about R-Pods is the athwartship camper queen which, IMO, can never accommodate two normal size adults comfortably. Therefore, being the noble husband that I am, my wife gets the queen bunk, I get a very comfortable make up on the dinette, and that leaves room for Baxter, the mama's boy, to sleep with Joyce, while Daddy's girl sleeps with me. (Until they get hot, then they're both on the floor!)
Gotta have a dog (or dogs) or it's not campin' ...

Our two Boston terriers always go with us and sleep on the bed. We started camping so we could take our dogs along.

hi, my wife and i have a 179 (we're newbies--traditionally tenters) We have two mutts--95 and 105 lbs. both total sweethearts but underfoot. Happily we spend most of the daytime outside. we drop the dinette into a dog bed at night. This works out pretty well. We have yet to get caught in a storm, so we'll see how things work them. All the best to you pet lovers. Bruce

One 15lbs + Eskimo Spitz in a 180 who is a total bed hog!
Only when were out in our Pod is when she doesn't bed down in her crate and we allow her to sleep with us but we wouldn't leave with out the little chump!
