This may have been answered and I missed it, but with so many podders adding 12v DC connections in their campers as a mod, why doesn't Forest River make this standard in the R-pod?

Probably for a couple of reasons. One is $. The other is where to place it/them. Where I need  12V outlets may differ from other people's needs. By putting them in my self, I have them where I need them.

Do you know if the USB ports run off the 12v supply or only AC/DC?  I don't pick my 179 up until June but would like to get a lot of basic mods planned out ahead of time.

BTW to answer the "why"?.. most RVers, including podders, NEVER camp without hookups. The percentage of RVers who boondock on purpose is less then 1%. So the why is, "why put in something 99% of our customers don't need, want, or use, when the 1% won't be happy with where we put them anyways, and will just add them where they want?"

I agree with the "will just add them where they want" part. I can't imagine that Forest River would sprinkle them throughout in the hopes that they get them in the places people would actually want them.
