Generator

Northern tool has one that is 2000 and it is quite but it is half the price of the Honda so you could get two and run them together. I look at them and the sales man really help me I may be getting one of them.

well, it came in. I'll have to strat it up and see how loud it is. I wouldnt ever run it at night, I am thinking daytime only. I also thought making a box to go over it, with some type of breathable filter, it might quiet it down. I have a few months to try to come up with something. This unit was on sale for 399.00 with a remote start, it was worth a shot.

well. i put it together (wheels,hift handle, battery for elec/remote start) started her up and......... its pretty freakin quiet. I was pretty happy with it. It might sound loud after hearing it for an hour, but it was fairly quiet. At 25 feet it was no worse than if someone was talking to you in a calm voice. i think if i left it in the bed of the truck, with the cover closed, it might be almost make no noise. A small noise reduction mod if that doesnt work. i'll try to give people a heads up where i'm going so they can avoid the noisy camper guy.

Using Champion's and Yamaha's own numbers, the Champion is almost twice as loud as the Yamaha.  (Now, I'm comparing a 2000/2400w Yamaha to a 3500/4000w Champion, so this isn't exactly apples to apples -- but if we're talking about generators that are adequate to run a Pod, the Yamaha is usually sufficient, whereas the Champion is more than necessary, so louder than necessary.)

I've never heard of campers being attacked for using a generator, but I have been told by campground hosts that other campers complained about my generator use, even though it was allowed at the campground and I was within generator hours.  And I've been asked to cut my generator off 15 minutes after generator hours when I missed the cutoff.  (Totally appropriately.  My bad.)  There is one campground I go to fairly regularly that has sections that allow generators from October to April but not May to September.  I learned that the hard way when the ranger told me to cut off the generator or move.

All this points to the fact that whether your generator bothers you, with or without your air conditioner running, it most likely bothers others around you.

Camping among annoying campers, whether they are breaking the rules or not, is not fun.  I'll use my generator when allowed, but I try to limit the noise as much as I can.

I'm not thinking i'll be using it alot to camp, there are a few places without hook ups i might use it. I'm not out to ruin anyones camping fun. I think keeping it in the bed of the truck might be just the amount of baffle needed to make it work. Plus with the remote start, i can call for it when i need and shut it off quickly. good topic though, thanks everyone.
