I just looked it up, and March and April are peal Bluebonnet time.  I have always seen the hill country with the grass browned out in summer.  It would be spectacular to see the bluebonnets in bloom.

It is a little bit farther out, (a bit like 1 hour) but you might want to consider Bastrop State Park.  It is east of Austin and I've always thought the blue bonnets were better to the west -  more in the hill country.  We stayed in a place near Dripping Springs but I can't remember the name.I'll research it some more and let you know.

The place is called Sunset RV Resort on Hamilton Pool Road.  They are closed on the weekends so give them a call (512-635-7878).

Thanks we do want to stay closer to Austin if possible but we could drive out there to see the blue bonnets.
We are heading out to see some of the music and history around Austin.

Considering this...McKinney Falls SP is the they way to go. Good Luck, Have Fun!

The park is an older one that needs some facilities attention, but the location is great!

The bluebonnets peak in mid to late March around Austin. In the Dallas area, they usually peak in early April.

We finely book the trip to Austin. We tried to get in to McKinney Falls but it was all booked. But we did get a spot in another state parks. We going a little later then we thought but that will work out better for us.
Thanks to all of the advice everyone gave us.

We leave for Austin Texas in the morning. We had to change the bike rack to the back it would have hit the tailgate of the truck. Load and take off time is 5am.

Also try Bastrop State Park. It’s less than an hour from Austin
