Longview is a large dealership in Windsor Locks CT with another branch in Florida. They are Forest River dealers and when we bought our Rpod from Couch's in 2013, they took care of the warranty work with no problem. Rpod was NOT one of the lines that they carried at the time.

Now they are Rpod dealers and WILL NOT do warranty work on pods bought elsewhere.

Another dealer moves to the dark side.

I don't undertand the logic in this. Once you own a camper, it must be maintained and they charge good money for service. Because they took care of me the first time, I went back for other work that I couldn't do myself. I was ready to have them do some more work (on the brakes) but when I heard of the new policy, I found another service garage and cancelled my appointment.

I also bought my 2013 R-Pod 177 from Couchs in 2012. I had issues with a water leak but being in Connecticut, no where to go. The R-Pod dealer in Southington (Hemlock Hills) refused to do any warranty work because they didn't sell it ( I tried to purchase from them but they were holding out for $17k).

Couches put me in contact with Longview. And Longview did fix the problem under warranty even though they didn't sell Pods. It took two trips, but they did fix it. Simple gasket replacement at the electric element.

I wonder why they would change their policy now?

I haven't had a single warrantable problem since then. My Pod has been trouble free.

The difference is that now they sell R-pods themselves.

But it would make sense to continue doing the warranty work, even for people who did not buy from them, for the goodwill alone and future possibility of selling a new trailer in the future. I f they had the toy hauler models I need, I would buy from them over Hemlock Hill any day.

We emailed Longview for a quote and mentioned Couch's price.  We never heard from them.  So I called them and spoke to them for a quote and mentioned Couch's price.  Said they would have to call me back.  Never did. So they do not want to lower their prices and will not do warranty work as a punishment for not buying the RV from them.  Maybe if you had out of state plates and said you were stuck they would accommodate you.  Another dealer that had a high price which we do not buy from said they would not do warranty work.  Their excuse was they have too much work for their own RVs and cannot accommodate more so they decline.  Forest River does says buy from your local dealer.  It is different from car dealerships in which sales and service are almost like two different companies.  Never met a car service department that turns down work.

i went to longview to see the 172 i was interested in. i had already discussed a price with the dealer near me, but they didnt have one in stock and longview did. so i took the drive to see it. after seeing it we thought we might just purchase it there instead of ordering it at my local dealer. the price was a couple grand higher than my dealers first offer. I looked at the guy and said, ummm, i have a price much lower, so lets see if we can go from there. he wanted me to sign paperwork before he would tell me if he could meet that price, which i know he wouldn't, so i left. turns out i ended up getting the newer model ( that i didnt know was changing) because i ordered it, and they charged the same price for all the upgrades.

Longview is sounding more and more like a dealer to avoid.

Dead Buyer beware!
I responded to a Craigslist add for a 2010 171 for $6000.  I spoke to a person to gain more information about the trailer who never identified the owner (Longview RV).  I arranged to see the 171 and was given an address and to meet another person.  I was surprised upon arriving that the 171 was at a dealer and was relieved to hear that the 171 was Longview's and they were selling it.
To make a painfully long story short, our newbie purchase of a "lightly " used 2010 171 with a soft frozen spot outside the bathroom has developed into a total floor replacement.  Even though they were asked about the floor and part of the purchase price was to re-seal the entire coach which should have uncovered a major leak in the front, no disclosure was made of the possible damage.  Upon completing the purchase, I was given a form stating this was an "As is" sale without warranty.  I agreed as it was an 8 year old trailer and I paid for an inspection and shown all system were functioning.

I contacted Longview after discovering the true extent of the floor damage and lack of re-sealing the trailer beyond the roof.  Longview has no interest in any accountability for their representation of the trailer nor the work performed (or not performed).  While this is a newbie mistake to trust that a dealer would fully disclose possible issues instead of glossing over them, I hope this note may save someone else from a similar mistake.

I left that place the one time I went in there, feeling dirty. I got such a bad vibe from them I wouldn't even use the water bubbler. Imagine the guy wanting you to fill out paperwork before discussing the price. I tend to not be very shy about expressing myself and, I looked right at him and said" Do I really look that stupid". He of course said, oh nooooo, I just need to have something written down before I can talk to the manager, it's just the way they do it. I left a few minutes later. But heres a possible bright spot. Dufours R.V. has treated me great so far. They are in fitchburg mass, about 1 1/2 hours north east of longview. I dont know if they work on pods purchased elsewhere, but if you explain your case, and tell them you want to stay with them, i doubt they would say no. Sorry for your dealer nightmare. I just posted recently about this crap.
