Our brand new 180 has a terrible skunk smell! We have had it for almost a month, have had it out 2 times. At first I thought it was just the "new" plastics/material smell and figured it would fade away. But it just seems to be getting worse, and now the whole bathroom smells like a construction site porta-potty! Any suggestions? Anyone else had this with a brand new model?

Does the smell seem to be coming from the shower area? If you haven't used it, the trap may be dry which would leave it open from smells to come from the gray water tank. Put some water down the shower drain if that is the case. You may wish to use a gray water treatment as well. I would hope you have water in the sink trap and the bowl of your toilet also to make sure those are sealed also.

Another possibility is that the vent pipe was not connected properly to the vent on the roof that is supposed to vent odors to outside the pod. That happened with the first motor home my parents had.

A third possibility is that the base of the toilet was not sealed properly. Given your statement that it smells like a porta-potty, I would suspect the vent pipe or the toilet seal. In any case, it would be a good idea to take it to your dealer if adding water to the drains does not eliminate this.

Use a wastewater treatment in your black and gray tanks!! Even "empty" they can stink, and the vent on the roof can cause smells to come out of the traps if they are dry.

When I finish a trip and the tanks are empty, I fill a 3 gallon bucket and dump some treatment into it (Campa-Chem) mix it and then put half down the toilet, and half down the sink. No stink.

Update: skunk smell is gone! Not sure if it was one of the things mentioned causing some of the smell or not,but did discover some user error! 2 lessons learned:
1. Always find a level dump site.
2. Our tank dumps VERY slowly. Be patient.

Also wanted to thank all for their quick responses & suggestions, and let everyone know we are absolutely LOVING our rpod! It is the perfect camper for us!
