When the Rpod is disconnected from TV, are the brakes set? I'll still use wheel chocks in any case.

No, they are not. Chocks are essential.

I've always wondered why a hand brake was not a part of all TT's Ive had an occasion or two where I thought the chocks were properly placed, but being plastic, they slipped.

We always chock the wheels, even when staying over night in a Flying J or other stop over spot.
