Topic: Putting up an Rdome Posted: 16 Mar 2015 at 8:37pm |
Hi leigh-
We had the exact problem with our dome. We initially thought we had been given the older model some which has a smaller keder, but it turned out the problem was the track on the Pod. In some areas along the track the gap was too wide/open. My husband did the fix himself because we didn't want the Pod in the shop for who knows how long. He simply used a pair of large pliers that he put duct tape over the jaws to protect the rail. We put the dome in the track and took note of where it was falling out of the track. Ours was not fitting in several spots. He used the pliers to CAREFULLY and in stages close the rail where it was open to match the rest of the rail. If you attempt this the only advice I would give is to go slow. I hope this helps.
Our dome now sets up like a charm! Happy Podding! :)

Melissa had this same problem, not sure what they did to fix it. I haven't tried my R-Dome yet, but if I have the same problem, I will preset vise grips to the proper width +plus a half turn. Then shield the claws with tape or cloth to prevent marking the channel, and then just close the track where it's out of specs.
Melissa, are you out there, what did you guys do to fix yours?

Did the dome come with the Pod from the factory/dealer? It would be pretty far fetched to have it happen, but there are two different keder rail sizes, but since late 2011, they have all been the large size. If the dome you have happens to be an "early dome", it would slip out of the rail, because it's keder tape is made for the smaller rail.

Hello fellow Podders,
I just purchased my 179 and am planning on taking the "Pod di Buona Fortuna" out for the second time to a music festival in April. Since I will be there for 4 days, I was looking forward to putting up my Rdome. Today I decided to try a practice run so I knew what I was doing when I got there. Terrible failure. As I was feeding the top through the track, all was going well until I realized that the first part was coming out of the track as I moved along. I put it back in a few times and got some help but once I had it totally fed through, the middle just seemed to come out of the track with just the weight of the material.
Has anyone else ever had this problem? Doesn't really make sense. It's like the track is slightly to large.
Any help would be appreciated. I am hoping it is operator error......
