We just got back from what is likely to be our last trip for the season.  On Friday when hooking up I turned on the gas to cool down the frige while heading for our campground.  The regulator made an odd buzzing sound and I could hear/smell a gas leak.  Investigation discovered two spots in the hose from tank to regulator that had what I can only guess is squirrel tooth marks.  I stopped at two RV dealers with the second one having a hose.  The first one told me to make an appointment.  I made a resolution not to stop there again.

Well at least you can know that you're not the first. Something about fuel lines makes rodents (squirrels, chipmunks, rats, etc.) think that it's tastier than a double cheeseburger at a Weight Watchers convention. I know of no easy solution to the problem except to maybe try to wrap the line with something metallic that can't be easily gnawed through (easier said that done I know). Maybe you could coat it with something that would make it taste bad to them. Or else place some D-Con close to your propane tanks?

I posted here that I made an external fuel feed for my Yamaha generator since the internal tank is rather small.   First trip out we used the generator and left the camp for just a few hours, upon return a rodent, I suspect squirrel, had chewed through the gas line!

I spent quite a lot of time and some money chasing what I thought was a squirrel that kept chewing up stuff under the hood on my Ford F350 pickup.  He stripped most of the underhood insulation off , chewed through a $40 aftercooler silicone hose and one wire.
Finally one day I popped the hood and saw just the end of a tail as he scurried down the back of the engine, it was bare, no fur.   Not a squirrel.
A day or so later I managed to be ready and popped the hood to have him run down the back of the engine again.
This is a 4wd truck so it is high off the ground, I slipped under the truck and kept looking, finally I spotted a few small toes and claws just visible on the top of the transmission.
I had in my hand a .22 Ruger SP101 revolver loaded with rat shot so I waited with the barrel just inches from the toes....finally he poked his head out to look and BLAM, shot him right off the transmission.
For those that don't know .22 rat shot is very small pellets, didn't even take the paint off the underside of the transmission tunnel.
I've never seen a rat as big as this guy was.

Talk to your regular household central AC/heat people about what to coat those lines with.  I know sounds crazy, but we had problems with animals eating lines on  our outside unit. They came in an coated them with something that keeps pets and wildlife away. Sorry I don't remember what it was,but we were told it is a very common problem.
