We travel a lot on I-75 our average speed is about 60 mph and there are many trucks and cars that pass us. Sometimes I may drive a little faster to help with the flow of traffic. I learned the hard way and a pointer that all should remember check lug nuts before a trip and during long trips. As far as snow and ice I know to be very careful but since I have never driven on either one I am sure you living in the North East have more experience than I.

Personally I keep my max around 65 when cruising. I did spend a few hours last summer pushing 75 so we could make it to an attraction before it closed - but even with a large tow vehicle and a WDH it wasn't a comfortable experience. I wouldn't do that again.
I towed my pod through a blizzard 2 years ago for a winter campout with no problems. Obviously I wasn't going 75. Or 65.

Thanks for the replies - very helpful. Its good to know I can travel at 65 without any problems. I want to let trucks pass easily but don't want to get rear ended by going too slow.
I will add checking lug nuts to my daily check list. I am used to driving in snow but our travel plans don't include winter driving at this point. Thanks for the help!

Lug nut torque AND tire pressure - although you'll find over time the lug nuts will "seat" and won't need to be checked as often. Every time you stop for gas touch the tires and the wheel hubs with your hand. If it is too hot to keep your hand on it then you have a tire pressure or bearing problem.
Be prepared to be passed a lot. Especially in the west where the speed limit can be 70-80 mph.

I bought my pod in AZ. 1 day drive down, 1 back. I loved AZ. Speed limit of 75, I set cruise on 80 & got 11 MPG. Hit CA where the speed Nazis live, so dialed back to 62ish, got 13.5-14 MPG.
I laugh when people comment about trucks passing. I never get passed by trucks, I'll run with them. Cars always pass in CA, we have a 2 tier speed limit... That's just me, YMMV & all that.

Check the speed rating of your tires, usually trailer tires aren't rated above 65 mph.

Wow, driving all that way from Oregon to buy an east coast model? You don't want a Hood River edition for some reason? Did you price one at Blue Dog RV there in Idaho/Oregon? Were they that much cheaper in Iowa? Just curious. I hope you have safe travel and no snowy passes on I90 or I80.

Hi Paul,
Hope you enjoy RVing. We started about 10 years ago and it has been terrific. We currently have a 179 pulled by a Honda Pilot. I try to keep our speed at or under 60 mph. We are one of the few RVers we know who have a sway problem occasionally. Texas winds and tractor trailers passing us have caused this sway. I find less sway and more comfort keeping the speed down. I don't think 60 mph is "too slow". Hope this helps. Here is a common mistake to avoid. The r.pods are low to the ground so when entering places with a little dip or a bump up or down, take it really slow and on an angle. Good luck. RVing is a great lifestyle. John |

My first trip was crazy- 2000 miles along 1-40 through Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Lots of uphill and wind. I did about 60 mph most of the way, with LOTS of trucks passing. A bit nerve wracking, but I got used to it. The truck drivers are professionals, I felt like they knew how to pass safely. It's yahoos in towns that cut close when passing.
