We had a pull thru site our first year, site 315, it was right up from the boardwalk...greats site. Last year and this we took a back in site right along the back dune/boardwalk. Get great sun rises and can watch the beach too!! It is a great campground!! They have a great sunset on the sound side of rte 12.

Thanks...that's great info to have. We have never been KOA campers in the past because we have never needed full hookup with the popup we had. We had a cassette toilet in it. But with the R Pod, we plan more KOA's. Do they allow you to pick a site after you get there or do they generally assign one for you? Maybe if they are not too crowded , we can request a backin like you guys suggested. I will call them today and see if we can request one ahead of time. Thanks again. Jim

They are really nice, we go on their site KOA.com and pull up their site map. Pick your first 2-3 choice and go down the list they are very accommodating. Also they have after season rates kick in after Oct. 1st. We usually grab the fisherman's package which is 30 days for $700.00. Includes full hook ups, wifi, cable. They have a great pool area and hot tub. The area restaurants stay open some through mid October and others through November. They are very pet friendly

KOA has a membership which saves you money each stay, I believe 10%.  We like KOAs because the amenities are standard and the quality is usually very high.  We tried a few Good Sams and didn't like them.

Hello,
Can I ask about your trip?
My question is in regards to your route. Do you take I95 the entire route?
It scares me straight just to think about the mayhem (traffic, speeding drivers, etc.) on that major interstate. I usually try to find alternate routes, but don't see any other options when coming from the north. Any advice?

Hi Johnmaci,
We take I-91 south to the junctiuon with I-95, then I 95 south all the way until we get to Elkton,Md where we stay at the flying J, we then take rte 40 over to rte 13 thru Delaware, then 13 down to the bridge and tunnels, cross them and then 264 around Norfolk to 168 down to 158 to rte 12 and then to Rodanthe...........great spot to camp and fish!!!
