Since it takes about 5 minutes to do.. I see no reason to risk it.

All depends on your definition of rarely?

If it goes below freezing for more than just the occasional hour or so at night then I would certainly winterize.

Will you be camping in your Pod during the winter season?  That at least might change how and what your process for winterizing is.

We picked up our winterized pod in Langley in December 2012 and left it until the spring to dewinterize. I'm sure there were quite a few nights that the water lines could have froze during our mild winter. You never know what this winter will bring (even on beautiful Vancouver Island), and we will winterize so we don't have to worry about how low the temperatures drop to at night. 
We'll still camp throughout the winter (the furnace blasts amazing heat - great improvement over a candle lantern in a tent!), and will carry water jugs. We're use to the outhouses or the bush anyways so no hardship there!LOL
