N.E.T. Camping Resort (Vineland)
My wife and I took the R-Pod down to southern Ontario for the purpose of taking in some performances at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake and to explore some of the wineries in the area. We were not planning on visiting Niagara Falls and did not have any children/youth with us so had no need for activities. Only a nice quiet place to rest after touring.
N.E.T. Camping Resort is located about 5 minutes outside Vineland and 45 minutes from Niagara-on-the-Lake. It has 308 fully serviced sites (EWS) but the majority are seasonal sites. The Resort is a Good Sam member park (Facilities 9.5; Restrooms 9.0; Appeal 9.0).
As we were camping out-of-season the park was very quiet but with a splash pad, 2 pools, and a lake with paddle boats, one could imagine that there is more activity in the peak of summer. A number of new trees have been planted to provide more shade. Unfortunately, while we were there it rained all day but the campsite drained well (site 200).
The Wine Route passes through Vineland and Vineland Estates is a particularly scenic winery with a patio and restaurant overlooking the vineyard. Fresh local fruit and vegetables are readily available at roadside stalls and would enhance any meal at your campsite.
Normally we would stay at Provincial Parks but the closest ones are along Lake Erie (Rock Point, Selkirk, and Turkey Point) and are at least 1 ½ hours away from Niagara-on-the-Lake. Too far to travel after an evening show. [NOTE: Selkirk closes following Labour Day while Rock Point and Turkey Point close following Canadian Thanksgiving/Columbus Day.]
