Have any of you installed mud flaps on the rPod's fenders? We took ours out under sloppy conditions (the only kind we had until a week ago), and the rear of the rPod got slimed by road mud off the tires.
 
I picked up a generic pair at Fleetfarm; but I haven't installed them, because they are too short below the standard fender cutout.

Same. I put on a pair that I got at the auto parts store. I replaced the supplied mounting bolts with stainless steel ones from Home Depot. I worried about rust stains on the aluminum fenders.
 
Also mud flaps are a good idea from the legal standpoint, as our pod fenders aren't legal in some areas. Some places require fenders to reach at or below axle level, and pod fenders certainly don't.  Me, I'd be the one to get a ticket.
 
P/S Just hit Bing, and my state is one that requires fenders to go down to the center of the axle. Almost never enforced, but---

Here is what I did with our 171 R-pod.  I used stainless bolts and nuts so that It would not rust.

I bought a truck/trailer rubber mud flap and cut it to size much like rpodcamper. I used a smaller stainless steel flathead bolt with stainless steel acorn nuts to hold them on and also used a 1 inch wide aluminum bar on the inside to hold the mud flap in place instead of washers.
   Someone posted on here a while back about an issue that a Trooper in Utah had with their POD with no mud flaps as the fenders did not cover the wheel. I think that any type of mud flap will work, it is what ever you decide on.   Goose

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. We set out with such good weather on the July 4th weekend that I thought mud flaps would be a non-issue for that trip to Duluth. Unfortunately, we drove out of the good weather and got slimed again. This time I bought a pair of truck-sized flaps and hope to install them this weekend.

     Curiosity, I was told that the fenders were stainless steel was I told wrong and that they are in truth aluminum? I know stainless steel is more difficult to drill through than aluminum. Does anyone know the answer what they are made from.   David

Mine are aluminum.  I think they all are unless someone swapped them out for stainless.

I managed to make at least a 3-hour job out of it in muggy 87-degree heat; but I got the mud flaps installed this past weekend. They look like they belong on it, and I hope they'll provide some serious protection from road slop.
