Sorry about your thumb. I put one of these covers over the furnace vents:

No problems with the little #%$^#@ building nests in there any more. Well worth the $15 and a bit of caulk.

   Last year I bought the round screens for the furnace, the larger rectange one for the water heater and the flat ones for the frig. I have seen the mess that those little #%$^@ can do and did not want any part of it.    Goose
