I live in Dallas and want to take my 2 1/2 yr old son camping (within 100 mile radius) during the winter months.

Do you have any suggestions as to what activities we can do while winter camping?

Get a bean bag toss game or a couple of bicycles if there are trails to ride on.

Bikes are a great idea! and I as I understand you all still have decent warm weather..so anything goes.  My step daughter was here (pacific nw) visiting from Midland, Tx..is this near you?  She had weather shock as it was 85 in Tx and is in the 40's here...
when the girls and I go camping..we do alot of hiking, reading, the pod is outfitted with our fav games and tend to play card games...of course we have the dvd as a backup..but usually movies are in the evening before bed.  Have a great time with the little one--my girls are teenagers and they always talk about the great camping trips we have taken...good memories!

First, welcome Tripodgirls! Smile  Glad to have you with us!

I can't really speak to winter camping in TX.  I would be willing to bet that it is a little warmer there than in Indiana.  I don't do any "severe/extreme" weather camping, but have been caught in the snow a time or two.  My cold weather camping is much the same as warm weather - I just dress for the temps.  I do always keep a DVD or two to watch if the weather gets real nasty.  Good luck!

I have been all over Texas but for the life of me I can't remember what is in the area you will be going to.  Lots of historic places all over the state.  Too bad you can't get over to San Antonio.  Any kid would enjoy the Alamo.

I suggest go as far south as you can in a 3-4 hour driving time.  Big Bend national park?  Galveston? Padre Island?

Hiking with hiking sticks.  Kids love hiking sticks made from wood found in the trails.

mountain biking. trail riding.

explore a city nearby.

cook pancakes and teach the kids to do it from scratch.  they love the challenge and if succesfull the reward is awesome!
