NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams:
They didn't say where this happened exactly. They had a picture of a Black Lab laying beside a casket. The funeral was for a US Navy Seal killed in Afghanistan. The dog walked down the isle between the rows of people, up to the casket and let out a large sigh and laid down. He was with his owner. That story really put a lump in my throat. I just wanted to share that story with everyone. Terry |

I'm with you on that story, really grabbed at the heart. I'll post it for the others on this forum.
![]() Loyal Labrador retriever Hawkeye refused to leave the side of his master, Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, even in death. More than 1,000 people turned up to honour Mr Tumilson in his hometown of Rockford, Iowa, after he was one of 38 killed when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan earlier this month. The picture was taken by Mr Tumilson’s cousin, Lisa Pembleton. That is touching. That sounds like what my lab mix would do for me. Dogs do have a keen sense of loyalty for their master and friend. Knowing how my dog misses me terribly when I'm away, I do believe he would be heartbroken if I never came back. As it is, for a long time after my wife left me, he would get real excited when he heard a deasel engine of a pick-up truck drive down the road (thinking that it was her coming home). For months, he would get excited, then I could see the disappointment in his eyes. Yes, dogs have a heart all their own.

I couldn't agree more about a dog's loyalty.

one who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferosity, and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.Taken from Lord Byron's "Epitaph to a Dog" I wish I were the kind of person that my dog thinks I am.

Thanks for posting the picture and link. My wife missed it so I got to show her. She brought out a good point: "I hope it doesn't pine away".

That's a good one. I've heard of this before too, I've seen pictures of dogs sitting on their masters grave sites unwilling to leave. Loyal creatures indeed. My pup definitely gets over-excited when I come home for the day, usually puts a smile on my face. Now if only my wife would get that excited when I walked in the door...:). Speaking of...I'll forward this thread to her. That's a touching photo.
