You didn't go camping if you didn't make s'mores! We usually camp with 100 miles of home, so we bring our wood with us. Don't know if we should reconsider when traveling, say, more than 50 miles from home. We've had a fire ban statewide until very recently. Looking forward to a campfire on our next trip.

How about the option... every night, and I chop my own wood from the surrounding woodland.  Tongue

On the mornings when there is at least a little chill in the air, I like to build a mini campfire. Goes very nicely with cups of coffee!

We always bring kindling from home and buy our wood at the campgrounds. Fires are usually smallish for cooking and you gotta have s'mores for the grandkids.

Hey secret bard, that's some graduate program you're in... Chopping firewood, every weekend camping... Wish mine was like that.. But, oh yeah, it was.. We were in AZ, at ASU, went up to the Rim every weekend, camped in National Forest campgrounds for two bucks a night...what a life! But, that doesn't mention the midnight experiments, the all day teaching labs, and like that.

I sometimes bring wood from home, usually buy a couple of bundles at the State Park Campground.  Usually I am able to walk about the campsite and into the woods and retrieve dead wood which burns great.  Numerous storms in the area this year have left lots of firewood on the ground, and it helps clean up the trails!!!
