Topic: Roadside service advice Posted: 13 Jun 2011 at 12:01am |
I need a little info. My wife and I are to an age and financial status where we aren't driving new cars and trucks any longer. We have towing with our insurance, but in actuality, it's probably not up to snuff. So, maybe it's time to join some roadside service club-- Good Sam, AAA, or some other. Anyone have any positive or negative experiences or specific advice for me? Like anyone, we would be looking for the best coverage at the lowest price.

I have not done an analysis of other plans but the premium AA indicates they will cover towing a camper up to 100 miles. Hope I don't ever have to use it. Good luck. Clark

I've got nothing but good to say about CAA (Canada's AAA). We have RV+ coverage and have made good use of it; we've used CAA several times for the vehicles, and I called them once to have the R-POD pulled out of the mud. I found the best (and most comprehensive) RV insurance coverage through CAA, and have booked several flights/cars/hotels at good discounts as well.
However, if I was in the US, I'd likely be using Good Sam. The vehicle coverage is a bit better and the family coverage is much cheaper.

Kickstart, check to see what kind of roadside assistance your insurance company has. You might find it to be much more comparable to what AAA or Good Sam offers at a much lower cost.
I thought that I was going to have to use Geico's at one point on our first camping trip. We were out in the middle of nowhere, and Geico was willing to tow it to Chicago (about 60 miles away) as part of their roadside coverage. I, thankfully, didn't need to have the pod towed, but it was good to know that Geico was there.

I have used Good Sam for years and have no complaints. We have called them on a few occasions and they did a good job for us. I like it because it covers all vehicles in a family except utility trailers.

We have GoodSam, was the best rates with best coverage for us. Havne't had to use it yet luckily, but we love their plan options they offer.
