3. Does the flow regulator go between your hose and the rpod or between the faucet and the hose?  I've seen discussion stating each way.
We use ours, which has a pressure gauge, at the water source, then to the hose.
4. Do most people use a water filter?  If so, any particular brand/model?
We have used one since we purchased our POD last year.  We do bring bottled water to drink, although I am sure the Culligan RVF-10 filtered water would be very drinkable.
5. For propane, do most of you just carry a second tank as a back up?  Any good photos/recommendations on setting up two tanks?
I have yet to refill our single tank.  But to be honest we don't use the stove, or the propane part of the water heater.  The only thing we use it for is to cool down the fridge 8-12 hrs before we head out for a trip.

Great advice/answers from all.  Thanks.

Hodge-PODge - I like the PUR device you linked me too...I may do that since it filters right where we would use the water...the easy installation is appealing.

I had installed my pressure regulator between the hose and pod...it worked but it makes sense to place between faucet and hose.

On occasion, I do use a Caamco TastePURE water filter.  It will not remove giardia.  It does, however, remove nasty smells (like sulphur) from water.  The cartridge drops the water pressure dramatically - sometimes, so low that its almost unusable.

I quit using the Camco (mounted on the outside hose) because it dropped the water pressure too low for a good shower.

However, several years ago when we camped out together my mom got giardia (a parasite in contaminated water).  It went undetected for a couple of months even though she went to the doctor.  She had horrible stomach cramping and lost a lot of weight because the cramping made it impossible for her to eat comfortably.  Turned out the doctor had detected the giardia a month earlier but had failed to give my mom the results or a prescription!  Ever since then, I either bring drinking water from home, buy drinking water, or use a filter on the faucet.

ABOUT THE FILTER FOR THE FAUCET . . . I was in Wal-Mart the other day (Imagine . . . the Mod Squad queen in WalmartShocked?) and found this PUR water filter on clearance.  It is the PUR mineralclear(tm) vertical mount water filter.  I bought it for the POD because it filters giardia or microbial cysts.  I only paid $24 for it, and it was an easy one-click installation on the POD galley faucet.  Go to  http://www.purwater.com/pur-products/faucet-water-filter/3-stage-vertical.html.  You can get it at Amazon.com if you can't find it anywhere else.  It also comes in a horizontal mount if you prefer.

1. Do people leave their insect screen on the heater vent while driving or do you remove it?  The springs seem very strong and tight so I doubt it would come off...just wondering what others do.
Yes, we leave ours on all the time - including through the winter.  Besides, it'd be too fiddly for me if I had to detach them every time we headed out and reattach them when we arrived.

2. On our first overnight trip, the hot water seemed milky...is that normal or just an artifact of it being used for the first time?
Yes, its fine (but don't drink it).  I generally get milky hot water every spring when I dewinterize.  Its just a combination of frothy water and residue from the anode.  Let the tap run and clear it out.

3. Does the flow regulator go between your hose and the rpod or between the faucet and the hose?  I've seen discussion stating each way.
The pressure regulator attaches to the campground spigot.  That way, in addition to protecting your R-POD's pipes from bursting, it'll also protect your white hose.  The white hose is generally the weakest link in the setup.

I carry a small, 10 pound tank for use with our barbeque.  It also serves as a backup to our main tank.  Not that its a perfect system - last fall, I ran out of gas in both tanks on a blustery, cold night.

When considering adding a second propane tank (or battery) to the tongue, don't forget that it will impact your tongue weight considerably.  Make sure that your vehicle has ample capacity for the additional tongue weight.

I have never heard of anyone taking theirs off.  So, leave them on.

That is a new one on me.  If it clears up it could be air getting into the system.  Other than that, I don't know.  Did you try to run the water a long time to see if it cleared up?  Was the water coming from your tank or from a water hookup?

3. Does the flow regulator go between your hose and the rpod or between the faucet and the hose?  I've seen discussion stating each way.
The ones I have seen were between the water post and the hose.

4. Do most people use a water filter?  If so, any particular brand/model?
EVERYONE should use a filter.  All dealerships carry filters so that shouldn't be a problem getting one.

5. For propane, do most of you just carry a second tank as a back up?  Any good photos/recommendations on setting up two tanks?
If you start out with a full tank you should be okay for a weekend of camping.  For longer periods I would take another one...maybe.  The maybe is because most campgrounds have a LP fill station where you can top off your tank.  I think there is a discussion here somewhere on a 2 tank setup.  Take a look in the mods section.

Thanks

Paul

Answers:

1) We leave them on and no problems thus far.
2) We did a fresh tank flush (with bleach solution) before the first time use and did not see anything milky at first time use.
3) Our flow regulator is between the faucet and hose.
4) No, we don't use a filter. However, we use water (from home) for drinking and cooking just as a matter of preference. We have two collapsible 5 gallon containers that we carry along for a weekend trip.
5) No backup propane tank for us but we also have not dry camped yes.

Hope that helps!
