Good morning,
I apologize in advance for the long winded first post, but am looking for some guidance from those who have more experience than I do. A bit of a background - my wife is an avid outdoorswoman. we have been married for 27 years and have had a variety of pop-ups and travel trailers that I would renovate, use for a year and flip. It was a hobby that allowed us to enjoy getting outdoors affordably. February of 2024 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and soldiered through that battle with toughness and resiliency. We decided now that the kids are older and we aren't getting any younger that we would purchase another camper - small enough to easily tow and that would fit us and the dogs comfortably. We got a 2017 RPod 180 from a local RV dealer that we deal with a lot. On to the issue: - I have it stored at my buddy's farm and it was connected to shore power for the last couple of weeks. I dewinterized it and left it plugged in. - I got to the camper one day to start cleaning it up and tried to operate the slide out. The lippert 13398-DO unit was flashing High Battery fault on motor 1. I switched the harnesses and then motor 2 was showing hall power short to ground fault. Strange. - I noticed that there was a sulfur smell coming from the front of the camper which I troubleshot to the battery.....got it tested and it was bad. Replaced the battery and fixed the issue. The slideout operated fine after replacement. - Next day I went back to the camper and the slide out controller was not operating without manual override. Still showing a hall power short to ground. When inspecting more closely, this module was a replacement from the original and there was some water intrusion at the slide out seal that may have gotten to the wiring. ALL fuses checked out Ok at the panel. -I ordered and replaced the bulb seals at the slideout and after a couple heavy rains, there is no more water intrusion. - Disconnected the battery and tried to operate anything in the camper on shore power alone - nothing worked except the outlets.......no lights, no appliances, etc. The outlets were the only thing that worked with the battery disconnected and the shore power unplugged. - Outlets do NOT work with just the battery connected, but all 12v operations work. Based on the above information, it seems that the consensus is that I have a faulty power converter. From what I can gather, the battery issue was that the converter was allowing it to overcharge when connected to shore power and the fact that none of the 12v ran off of shore power meant that the converter was not operating properly. I am looking for a bit of guidance from the group to see if I am on the right track. I can order and replace the converter myself, but admittedly do not have much experience in troubleshooting electrical components. This SEEMS cut and dry to me and there are many documented cases of these converters / power units going bad. Now that I have fixed the small water intrusion and relocated the slide out module to a place where it is not in danger of crimped wires / water. From those more experienced in this matter, is there anything that I might be missing or overlooking here? I very much appreciate any input / feedback / advice that any of you might have. Take Care, Shawn
