We have a 2016 179 which had a roof leak along the edge of the exterior wall on the bump out side. this caused the ceiling membrane to get soft and it encompasses 3 panels.  The panels extend into the shower and closets on the opposite side.  Since the ceiling will need to have the panels patched on the ends along the bump out wall (damage extends only 14 inches) I was going to cut out the damaged portions and replace with similar material. however the  finish covering will not provide and ideal finished look. I was thinking about covering the entire ceiling (except for bathroom and closets) with a thin 1/4 inch tongue and groove wood that would be glued and nailed (crown staples).
Does this sound like it would work and hold while traveling?
Has anyone else tried this modification on a ceiling?
OR does anyone have other solutions for this issue?
Looking forward to suggestions and/or comments.

I think most of the roof structure is metal framing except for the curved part over the bed of the 179. I don't think nailing will be possible except in that small area.  gluing strips will be difficult because of gravity pulling them down before the glue will properly set.
Sheet goods may be your best option. You could make a paper/cardboard pattern, cut them as closely as possible to the shape and then add small moldings around the edges.  You might be able to put up temporary posts to hold small sections of sheet goods in place until glue dries.  There are lots of good construction type glues in caulking tubes that could be used.  Power Grip , Liquid Nails and Gorilla glue are several that are available in the big box home improvement stores.

there are other posts about ceiling repair/replacement on the forum that may be helpful. Obviously, the first thing to do is to make certain that the leak has been repaired.
Good luck-let us know what you do and how you did it.

Thank you Vann for your insight regarding the ceiling framing.

We did repair the leak, had the entire roof re-caulked and have not had further issues in that regard.

I suppose once I open up the ceiling to remove the portions of the panels that were damaged i will be able to see the framing and the type of material the ceiling panels are made from and their thickness. I am guessing is a luan plywood perhaps 1/4 in thick.

I agree with your idea of a sheet type panel, would be the least tedious method of masking the problem areas an provide a uniform ceiling.

I will keep you posted as i move forward with the project.

Thanks again

Here's a construction video, might give you an insight on what you're getting into when you open up the ceiling.

Construction video

You might want to consider just replacing the damaged area, covering the seams with trim strips, and then painting the ceiling to get a uniform look.
