Hi folks, looking for some guidance here. Tried to find this topic in log but couldn’t, apologize if I am starting a new thread for an old topic!
So, since getting our Rpod 179, the screen door latch was cracked almost in half. As Part of my post trip repairs I decided to replace the latch.
Got the latch, removed the old one, installed the new one and realized that there was no way for screen door to unlatch from door frame when opening main cabin door. The screen door is latched to the main cabin door for obvious reasons when door is open, but when closed how is it supposed to unlatch from door frame when opening door? I see now why the other  latch was cracked, that let it flex enough to open along with main door.
What am I missing?

On my 179 there is a sliding plastic panel in the screen door covering the latch area from the inside of the door and when the screen is fastened to the exterior door you are able to slide the plastic panel and unlatch the screen door from the exterior door.  Hope makes some sense to you and it help out.

Thanks for the reply, I understand that but the problem is when the screen door is latched to the outside door and the outside door is closed, then try to open from the outside, the main door will unlatch but the screen door stays latched to the door frame.

Just went out and checked just how mine works and there is a catch on the exterior door that the handle of the screen door latch engages which holds the screen door attached to the exterior door.  If the distance is too great between the catch and the screen door latch's handle (top to bottom) the latch is allowed to fully extend its tongue which will then allow the tongue to engage the door jam upon closing.  The distance between the screen door latch's handle and the catch on the exterior door has to be adjusted.  Hope this makes sense and it helps.

That was the ticket! Had to move the bracket down a bit to engage the lever and keep it from latching into the door frame. After looking at the old parts again,  I think that’s why the other latch was broken, the catch was mounted too high and it eventually cracked the latch housing.
Many thanks! That was project 4 of 5 on my “Post 6 Month Expedition” repair list…
Now if I could just locate a 48” W x 24” L blind, I can wrap it up. Seems all the 48” W come in much longer lengths 🙄.
Happy Trails!
