After sleeping on the original mattress 3x it was time to replace.  The ground was more comfortable than that thing FR called a mattress.  We went with an 8" Eurotop short queen.  Now it is 11 years later and that mattress is just as firm and comfortable as the day we installed it.  Not cheap, but extremely comfortable and will last a long time, like a Tootsie Roll.Big smile

This is the one we purchased. The price is significantly higher but we have been very pleased with this one. It is made in the USA. The Chinese made Zinus one I purchased previously failed to fully expand because it had not been compressed too long between manufacture, shipment from China, and delivery. I was able to get a refund on that and purchased the Dreamfoam bed which is holding up well since we purchased it in January, 2019.

We swapped out the OEM thing that appeared to be a mattress until you touched it with a 6" memory foam short queen mattress.  It has served us very well for 3 years and is remarkably comfortable.  It's easy to lift and get out of the trailer for spring cleaning and does not sit too high on the bed platform, as would a thicker mattress.  Some have expressed concern about "bottoming out" with a 6" mattress.  That has never happened to us, but if one is on the heavy side, I guess it could be a problem.

When we got the mattress, it came in a box and took a week or so to reach full expansion.  It had a mild foam odor that also dissipated before we put it in service.  [We let it sit in an unused bedroom for a few weeks while we waited for the trailer to arrive.]  One nice thing about the mattress was that it was very economical.  I checked the price on Amazon and it's gone up quite a bit, but is still less costly than many other comparable mattresses.  I tried to put a link to Amazon in the post, but the Mr. Google doesn't seem to want to cooperate, so here is the mattress description:

Best Price Mattress 6 Inch RV Camping Memory Foam Mattress, Calming Green Tea Infusion, Pressure Relieving, Bed-in-a-Box, CertiPUR-US Certified, Short Queen

The 179 and 178 use a short (RV) queen. A full length queen won't fit. While you don't need to purchase one that is rolled up, that may be your best option. We have a 6 inch memory foam mattress that is a good choice for comfort vs. weight. You will want to be able to move it to get to the water heater bypass valves, furnace, and water pump. Thicker mattresses may be more comfortable, but the increased weight also means they are harder to move. The maximum I would go is 8 inches. I had a 10 inch one there, and it was just too thick and heavy.

Ultimately, you will need to find one that will meet your needs. My choice may not be what you need.
