Topic: antenna replacement Posted: 02 Apr 2022 at 5:18pm |
A very mean tree grabbed the antenna right of the top of my pod!
It shattered on impact wiht the ground so now I'm looking for a replacement. I did search the forum for previous suggestions but the ones folks have suggested are no longer available and I don't know enough about them yet to just pick one. What are the things I should consider? I have a 2016 172 and had the original (I guess it's what you guys call a batwing). I don't need anything exceptional, just basic. The easier it is to mount the better but I am paying someone to do it right. I don't watch the tv but just for the sake of keeping things in good repair I want to replace it. I do use the radio occasionally. Does the FM radio get a signal from the original antenna? I'd appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks, |

I would make sure when the antenna broke away from the camper it didn't leave a hole for water to inter your roof until you get it repaired. There are a lot of different brands of antennas that may work for a replacement I don't know enough about them to know which would be better. We replaced ours hoping to get better reception but our replacement wasn't much better. The radio I think has a separate antenna.

I looked at replacing my continu.us CA-2500B antenna with something better, but never found one with noticeably better specs. Looks like the model available to the public is labeled CA-1500, but it looks the same. It does supply the radio with AM and FM signals. It is omni-directional, making it "no fuss", but that will give up some range to a directional antenna.

thanks everyone. John, I think that one you mentioned is portable, not permanently mounted. Stephen, I hadn't but I think that's the one I'll go with.

The Omni Pro color black is the one I went with too for our Vista Cruiser. We got the color black to match AC cover and vent rain covers. It works a little better than our old one from the manufacturer Gulf Stream. Need to replace the amplifier with the one that comes with the new antenna.
