Thanks for the 'tour' After seeing spectacular color last week especially around Munising in the U.P. of Michigan it was noticed on your tour of the lack of autumn colors. What time of year do you see the fall foliage show in the Smokies? Is it late this month or sometime in November?

we have a cabin at the edge of the Smokies near Bryson City, NC. When we first started going there in 1974, the color peak was generally the middle of October. Over the years the peak has slowly moved further and further into the month. Now, we assume (problems!!) around November 5 +/-. depending on which "expert" you consult. things such as rainfall, altitude, average temperature, amount of daylight and .....(fill in the blank) contribute to the timing, duration and amount of color. If you want the maximum potential, I would go during the last week of October in the lower altitudes and the first week of November at higher altitudes. But that is subject to change! I was also noticing that the wasn't any color yet in the video. When was that recorded?
We're getting some color here in the Blue Ridge in SWVA and have been for a week or so above around 2500 feet. |

We returned home end of September. Making this ~early/mid September, as we left late August. Took us just over 2 weeks to get down to the Smokies.
