Topic: Brand New Dometic RM 8501 fridge for sale Posted: 18 Feb 2021 at 8:38am |
Purchased brand new Dometic RM 8501 3.7 cubic ft. 3-way refrigerator last October, 2020. When opened it had a broken eyebrow (plastic wrap that goes around the motherboard/display panel) and also the display light when on electric did not turn on when button was pushed. Over the next 3 months I was sent 2 replacement eyebrows, even though I only needed one. Also I requested a left hand opening (hinged on the right side) but received a right hand opening (hinged on left). Was told by FR I could reverse the doors/swing opening. Found out this was not the case so to make it happen I simply re-used the door off my old fridge.
Still, after spending $ 1100 for this unit I thought it only right that everything should function properly, the button did not light when pushed for electric. After 3 months of waiting they decided that instead of sending a new display panel, they would simply send a new fridge, which they did! So now I have an extra refrigerator which I do not need.
While waiting I installed this to make sure everything worked and outside of that one light for the electric button, it does. It has been run a total of 2 days. During that time I ran it for 24 hours on propane on the 4th button - temperature was 34 degrees. Also did the same on electric and got the same result on the temperature. Did not try the 12v side as I never used the 12v in the 10 years of owning the previous one, although when I touched the button I noted that the button 'lit' and the overhead lights in my 177 dimmed for just a moment - so that obviously works as well.
I have all the original packing and boxes as well as the pallet it came on. Price $ 450 and you pay for the shipping. I can send pictures if you want. PM me if more info is needed.

What a deal! I had to replace our Dometic 8501 about 3 years ago and the fridge alone was over $1000. I don't know JATO personally, but he has been a major contributor to the forum for years. He has been a help to a lot of members. I would certainly assume he is trustworthy and representing this honestly.

+.5 to Pod People. As for Jato, I agree 100%. As for replacing the fridge, thankfully when I replaced ours in our 172, I was able to get it from FR (in the olden days) for around $700 and plenty of helpful advice. Now they make you go to a dealer.
If you are thinking of a replacement, it's real easy to install and you can do a couple tweaks to improve the insulation around it and beef up the 12v battery run wires (as opposed to the 12v for the electronics).

For kicks and giggles I called a large RV sales outfit in Gaylord, MI which is just over an hours drive away. They gave me a price for the unit and I was shocked. They said "around $ 1500 and I would have to pick it up." There would be an additional charge for shipping. Ouch

+3. Jato’s deal is a great one. I’d be tempted to buy it as a spare but RV fridges have a shelf life of sorts and will eventually die just from sitting around unused. By the time I need one it’ll probably cost more than the whole trailer is worth.

If you procrastinate and are too late for Jato's great fridge offer, you can get one from the Scamp trailer people for less that others seem to be selling them for. Shipping is pretty expensive no matter where you buy it.

Fridge is sold - $ 450. Purchaser drove a bit of a distance to save on shipping. Can't blame him for that.
