Topic: Water puddling on roof around air conditioner Posted: 25 Jan 2021 at 4:56pm |
It was in the upper 70s today in Savannah, so I took advantage of the warm day to wash our 179, including the roof.
I noticed that water has been puddling around the Dometic a/c unit, facilitating the growth of brown and green algae due to poor drainage. The area around the unit is slightly lower than the rest of the roof. Is this common? I have seen no indication of any leakage or issues from the inside. On the plus side, the roof no longer looks biological.

I can only talk to our 2016 rPod179. The a/c unit was pretty much flush with the roof as I recall. I was up there several times putting vent covers over the bathroom fan and checking for a plugged black tank air vent; do not recall anything about the a/c unit that caused any concern. I'm sure there are others on this forum who can speak with more experience than me, so stand by. Good luck and have fun!

Sounds like the AC unit has created a slight depression in the roof. just in case of that I store my pod with a deliberate lean to the slideout side and front so that any water runs right off the front and also never into any gaps in the slide.

I park mine when outside and not in use, with a slightly nose down attitude. I'm wary of parking the trailer on a tilt (side to side), even a slight one.

Don't know if this would work, but it's worth throwing out for others to comment upon: How about marking off the low spot with a magic marker, getting the Pod as level as possible, figure out with a level about how deep the depression is, then filling it with some self leveling Dicor thick enough to put a little positive slope in the depression to shed the water away from the low spot.

Either that or drill a drain hole.
One gallon bucket on the floor inside the trailer, optional.

If the low spot is away from the a/c then a self leveling compound might take care of the problem but I don’t know if I’d do that right up against the a/c, it could compromise that seal.
Since it’s not leaking at this point I’m inclined toward mcarter’s nose down tilt suggestion. That should let the water drain off so it’s not creating a discolored area.

BTW - nose down because I don't want he water running up against spoiler, mine is eternabonded. But front is clear.
