After many years of tent camping, we've upgraded to an Rpod 190. We're looking forward to camping year round here in California. Since we're both still working, we tend to travel more during the summer, Thanksgiving and Christmas time frames when we have the time off.

I'm looking for recommendations for RV friendly campgrounds in northern California. We're pretty familiar with the CA state parks. My wife likes the idea of spots with full hookups though I worry about parking lot-like spaces with no privacy.

I'm interested in mountain or coastal areas that are known to be scenic and quiet.

We will be camping in Jalama Beach near Lompoc over labor day.  I have been to the beach before but haven't camped there, we are excited to see how it goes.

There are tons of really nice US Forest service campgrounds that easily accommodate an rPod or other short trailers.  One where we especially enjoy going is Hope Valley off of CA-88, east of Carson Pass.  But it is very popular and you will need reservations a lot of the time.  It closes for the season on Sept. 21.  The only service is water, but there is a dump station just outside Markleeville, CA at an RV park.

And there are state and local park campgrounds all up & down the coast; not to mention numerous private operations. I could mention them, but the list is quite long.

I'll recommend one.  I like is Seacliff state beach, one of the few places in CA where you can camp right on the beach in sight of the surf. It is cheek by jowl but its the beach so its cool. And the best Mexican restaurant on the coast (not exaggerating) is in easy walking distance from the campground.  The campground is booked up all summer so you either need to try for the winter or reserve way in advance.

We like Half Moon Beach State Park a ways north in Half Moon Bay. Not quite as close to the water as Seacliff, but you aren't jammed together like Seacliff either. You still get to watch, hear, and smell the beach from the campground. Bring a sweater, because the water is always cold along this section of the coast.

There are lots of KOA campgrounds in Northern California and every one I have sayed in was very nice.  As long as you are not on the coast they are fairly resonable.
