I've used the Good Sam Club trip planner for years but, of course, they had to change it, and not for the better. Ideally, I'd have a planner where I could change route possibilities without losing the original route and have a good choice of rv campsites.

What is the best route planner, or at least, a satisfactory one?

i like the "ultimate campground" app for checking out campsites.  i typically plan my route with google maps.  But, i don't go cross-country, just usually 4-6 hour trips.  recreation.gov is good for the campsites as well around here.

I use Google Maps and utilize the “Add a stop” function to customize the route.  However I’ve not found a way to save the custom route to Google.  But, you can “share” the route (copy the link) and save it for later or share it with others.

Be aware that as you are driving the route, Google may change it on the fly to accommodate for traffic etc.  It will briefly prompt you to accept the new route but will change it if you don’t reject the change. This can be a problem if you are trying to avoid parkways, propane-free tunnels etc.

I also use Allstays Camp & RV to find places to stay such as campgrounds, rest areas and Walmarts.

If you're concerned about ingress/egress with the trailer into dead end streets/parking lots/gas stations you can also use google maps in "satellite" view to plan your exits before you end up stuck down a blind alley somewhere.
