I need to install an "over 80-inch wide" ID light bar on the roof spoiler of my 2011 RP176T.  My spoiler is molded into the fiberglass, rather than a separate assembly. Does anyone know if the 2011 spoiler is hollow so I could use blind fasteners like toggle bolts to mount a light bar? Better yet, is it possible to get at the spoiler from the inside the trailer so I could conceal the wiring?

If I understand what you are saying, your 2011 R-Pod does not have a light bar/spoiler installed now, correct?

If this is correct, call Forest River. There is an existing RECALL to place a spoiler and lights on the earliest Pods builds. They will send the spoiler/lights and pay a dealer to handle the installation.

Thanks for responding! I understand that FR is responsible for the recall. I learned about it all thru this forum after buying the R-Pod used from an R-Pod dealer who hadn't informed me of the recall. I'm not inclined to turn it over to a dealer to do a butcher job if I think I can install the lights on my existing, integral spoiler myself. I'm trying to scope the job - thus my question about its structure.

So you have a spoiler... but it doesn't have lights?

As a note, FR will not require you to take it to a particular dealer for the recall. If there is another service center you are comfortable with, they have approved the recall to be done at other than FR or purchased from, dealers.

Yes the 2011 R-Pod does have a spoiler molded into the fiberglass. I understand that I can take the recall work to any R-Pod dealer, but I still would rather take advantage of the existing spoiler rather than a one-size-fits-all spoiler replacement available with the recall.

The lights the factory used just push into a 3/4 or so hole, and the wiring runs down in the trim to tie into the rear tail lights wiring in the rear cargo area.

Oh, and I didn't for some reason, realize you had a T model. They do have a molded in spoiler.. The '09 to '11 non T pods all had to have a spoiler added. I suspect the factory retrofit was drilling the 3 holes and pulling the wires. I really do suggest you call the factory, find out what they did and how they handled it. They really do want to get it fixed as much as you do.

I really appreciate your advice. I started on this issue by sending a message to the FR web contact point on the west coast. They told me to do what you have recommended. After hearing from you that the T models are non-standard with the integral molded fiberglass spoilers, I will follow up with my closest R-Pod dealer, Bretz RV in Missoula, MT. I'm more comfortable that we will both "be speaking the same language."
